DC: National American Muslim Leaders to Announce Results of Summit on National Security, Islamophobia

CAIR logo(WASHINGTON, D.C., 12/20/15) — On Monday, December 21, the US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), a coalition of leading national and local Muslim organizations, will hold a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., to announce major initiatives to address growing Islamophobia in America and to enhance national security.

Speakers at the news conference will include representatives of USCMO member groups and other key community leaders. Other organizations represented at the news conference will include the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA).

The initiatives to be announced at the news conference were discussed today at a day-long national summit of more than 100 national and regional American Muslim leaders held in Virginia and representing all areas of the country and all segments of that faith community.

News conference participants will outline the steps that will be taken in 2016 to implement the national security and anti-Islamophobia initiatives.

Sunday’s summit was convened in response to the unprecedented rise in bias incidents targeting American Muslims in the wake of the Paris terror attacks, the San Bernardino killings and leading GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s call to ban all Muslims from entering the United States.
