Kucinich: Congress Should Follow Blair’s Lead and Set a Timetable to Withdraw Troops
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 20) – Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) issued the following statement today upon the announcement that British Prime Minister Tony Blair will begin withdrawing British troops from Iraq.
“Clearly, time has run out. Our chief partner in the occupation of Iraq is abandoning the occupation. The only solution is to withdraw our troops,” Kucinich said.
“This is the time for the United States to cut off funds and end the war. Our leaders must reconsider the funding for the war. Congress should set a definite timetable for withdrawing the troops. We need to cut off funds and end the war because that is the only way to end the war.”
Congressman Kucinich intends to lead the effort in the House of Representatives to block additional funding for the war. The supplemental appropriations bill is expected to be on the House floor in a few weeks.
“The United States needs to change its course. If Tony Blair is ready to change the course in Iraq than Congress should change its course.”
