Media Advisory: Civil Society Groups and Security Expert Hold Press Conference Calling for Zoom to Implement Default End to End Encryption

(SANTA CLARA, CA, 4/30/2020) – Fight for the Future, Surveillance Technology Oversight Project, Inc., Kairos, XLab, Media Alliance, Color Of Change, the San Francisco Bay Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA), and Bruce Schneier will host a press conference on Zoom today at 8:45am PT. 

Zoom’s service has exploded in popularity. While the company has made some security improvements, they haven’t committed to the technology that’s indispensable to every safe online platform: default end to end encryption (E2EE). At the press conference, groups will speak to on-going security concerns with Zoom and security technologist, Bruce Schneier, will provide a technical explanation of how E2EE for video conferencing is possible.
