At the evening event, Muslims from across Maryland will meet with lawmakers and their staff to discuss issues such as strengthening hate crime laws and training for law enforcement officers, ending genocide worldwide, protecting childrenâ€™sâ€™ rights during interrogation by law enforcement, and opposing ineffective, unconstitutional countering violent extremism (CVE) programs.

During the 2019 lobby day, Maryland Muslim community delegates visited 35+ state lawmakersâ€™ offices with legislative packets onÂ eight bills in the stateâ€™s General Assembly pertaining to issues ranging from immigration, hate crimes, a statewide commission on lynching, and alternate forms of investment.Â
The Washington-based civil rights organization also flagged issues of interest including faith-based bullying of Muslim children in public schools, reasonable living wages and ending support for genocides around the world. Â
The United Maryland Muslim Council isÂ a community organization dedicated to promoting interest and involvement of Muslims in the State of Maryland. UMMC is committed to supporting, sponsoring and participating in activities of common interest of Muslims and the citizens of Maryland.Â
