(WASHINGTON, D.C., 1/30/16) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today announced the opening ofÂ registration for its 2nd AnnualÂ MarylandÂ Muslim Youth Leadership SymposiumÂ (#MYLS2016)Â to be held in Annapolis, Md., on March 24, 2016.Â
This year's symposium, to be held again in the Maryland State Capitol, is themedÂ “Defining Your Narrative in a Global Society.” The symposium isÂ designedÂ to empower the next generation of leaders to forge their identity andÂ shape their own narrative as Muslim youth face increasing challenges due to unprecedented levels ofÂ Islamophobia and intolerance.
The core mission of MYLS is to encourage civic and political engagement among American Muslim youth, empower them to guide their communities from the margins to the mainstream of society, and to help foster a well-integrated American Muslim identity that flourishes in a pluralistic society.Â It will also include a tour of state buildings, and involve dynamic speakers who will inspire youth with their knowledge and experiences.Â

CAIR has been organizing Muslim youth leadership programs in states across the country for more than a decade. Participants of these programs have gone on to become respected community leaders, activists, community organizers, and youth leaders.Â Last year's symposium was aÂ sold-out success, so those interested in participating are encouraged to register early to reserve their spot.Â
