TODAY: CAIR to Co-Host Kashmir Teach-In with Impacted Howard County Maryland Families

(BALTIMORE, MD, 11/3/19) – Later today, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) will join Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and Kashmiri-American families to share updates on the humanitarian crisis in the region of Kashmir, and to stand in solidarity with the community against oppression and persecution by the Indian government.

Recently, CAIR held a news conference with Kashmiri leaders urging elected officials to take action in Maryland to help families make contact with their loved ones.

Muslim groups urge Maryland lawmakers to address communications blackout, Indian occupation of Kashmir

The civil rights organization later submitted a written statement to the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and Nonproliferation’s hearing on “Human Rights in South Asia: Views from the State Department and the Region.”

CAIR’s statement focuses on Kashmir and the Indian government’s revocation of that region’s protected status and accompanying human rights abuses. The hearing was convened by Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA).

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
