U.S. is Monitoring Proposal for Mosque

Orland Park residents and village officials are not the only ones closely following a proposal to build a mosque in the southwest suburb.

In a letter mailed this week, Mayor Daniel McLaughlin advised residents that the federal Justice Department is monitoring the issue to make sure no U.S. laws are breached.

Village Board members are scheduled to vote Monday on a proposal to build a 22,000-square-foot, gold-domed mosque that has been ardently opposed by some residents who say they fear it may create traffic snarls and attract worshipers tied to terrorist groups..
