America's largest Islamic civil liberties group is trying to tear down what it calls "negative stereotypes" about Muslims perpetrated by the media.
The Council for American Islamic Relations is launching a major "media education campaign."
CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper told CBN News that misconceptions about Islam come from ignorance of the Koran's teachings.
He said that bad behavior by a small minority of Muslims gives a black eye to the entire community.
"Too often the faith of Islam gets painted with these kinds of negative actions and what we're trying to say is the vast majority of Muslims in this country and worldwide reject terrorism reject religious extremism," Hooper said. (MORE)
