(WASHINGTON, DC – 4/27/2021) — On Saturday, May 1, at 4 pm ET, the national office and local chapters of the Council on American Islamic-Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, plan to host a special “Uniting in Ramadan’ event to celebrate the resilience the Muslim community has shown while meeting the challenges of COVID-19, racism and global Islamophobia.

The event will feature remarks from representatives of CAIR chapters across the country, as well as recorded addresses by special guests from the British and French Muslim communities, which have faced similar and sometimes even more dangerous challenges over the past year.
In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“Ramadan is an opportunity for the Muslim community to come closer to God, as well as to our fasting brothers and sisters around the world. Although the COVID-19 pandemic, systemic anti-Black racism and global Islamophobia have challenged our diverse communities over the past year, we look forward to uniting and celebrating the resilience Muslims around the world have shown by responding to these challenges with faith, service and perseverance.”
