Government Affairs Reports

The Council on American-Islamic Relations’ Government Affairs Department represents and advocates the interests of the American Muslim community to the United States Congress, the Executive Branch, and other governmental agencies and entities. We promote civic engagement by helping American Muslims connect with their elected officials, stay informed, and register to vote.

The department actively monitors legislation and government activities at the local, state, and federal level and responds on behalf of the Muslim community.

CAIR representatives have testified before state legislatures and Congress and have sponsored several initiatives designed to bring Muslim concerns to their elected representatives. The department also helps hold elected officials accountable to the concerns of the American Muslim community by meeting directly with legislators, issuing action alerts, and publishing a biennial Congressional Scorecard.
