This weekend was a busy one for the staff at CAIR’s national office. On Saturday, 4/27, two of our civil rights attorneys led a “Know Your Rights” workshop with the Peace Islamic Center in Burke, Va. That event was followed by a civic engagement workshop on Sunday, 4/28, at Masjid Muhammad in Washington, DC, encouraging the Muslim community to get involved and politically active.CAIR also was present at the University of Maryland for an artistic event called “Freedom to____,” which was hosted by the UMD student group “Voices: Arts for Social Change” as a community response to Islamophobia and the recent DC metro ads. The weekend ended on a high note with the first annual CAIR-Maryland fundraising banquet on Sunday evening in Greenbelt, Md.
