CAIR Calls for Hate Crime Probe of South Dakota Racist ‘F*** Black History Month’ Note

(WASHINGTON D.C., 2/15/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on state and federal law enforcement authorities to launch a hate crime investigation of a racist note targeting a South Dakota tennager

A teen in Brandon, S.D., noticed the note – containing the N-word and “F*** Black History Month” – tucked into the door handle of his car. A police report has been filed, but the family is still waiting for answers about the racist note.

“Law enforcement authorities should take this case seriously and launch an immediate hate crime investigation,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “No American should face racist harassment or intimidation.”

Hooper noted that earlier today, CAIR expressed support for a series of hate crime ordinances proposed to the Grand Forks, N.D., city council and showed solidarity with Howard University students who faced racist harassment.

He said Washington, D.C.-based CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and white supremacy.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
