CAIR-NY Condemns Anti-Asian Attack in Queens, Welcomes Arrests for Anti-Black Graffiti

(NEW YORK, NY, 3/5/2023) – The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), today condemned an alleged attack on man and woman walking down a Queens street Thursday by suspects who reportedly jumped out of an SUV yelling anti-Asian slurs.

One woman in the SUV allegedly yelled, “Ugly Asian!” then threw water at the female victim. She and two men then reportedly got out of the vehicle and punched and kicked the victims.

“We condemn both this alleged attack and the disturbing rise in anti-Asian bigotry nationwide,” said CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher. “All Americans, regardless of their background, must be able to walk down the street without fear of a racist attack.”

Nasher also welcomed the arrest of two suspects who allegedly spray-painted anti-Black graffiti in Queens.
