(WASHINGTON, D.C., 7/31/23) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate an allegedly intentional vehicular assault on six migrant workers in North Carolina as a possible hate crime.
The workers were reportedly hit in a Walmart parking lot Lincolnton, N.C. None of the workers’ injuries appear to be life-threatening. Police are investigating the motive for the alleged attack. The driver, an older white male, fled the scene.

“Because of the persistent anti-immigrant hate we have witnessed nationwide in recent years, we urge local, state and federal law enforcement authorities to probe a possible bias motive for this alleged attack,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.
He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
