MCD participants to lobby against resolutions passed on Gaza, support bills related to Muslim Heritage and Awareness Month, criminal justice, hate crimes, voting rights, and immigrants’ rights on the agenda of the State Legislature
(PHILADELPHIA, PA, 10/18/2022) – On Wednesday, Oct. 18, Pennsylvania’s Muslim community, along with the Pennsylvania chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Pennsylvania) and Emgage Pennsylvania, will participate in the Sixth Annual Muslim Capitol Day (MCD) at the State Capitol Building in Harrisburg.
More than 100 MCD participants will visit the offices of their elected state senators and representatives. During these meetings, the participants will voice their concerns on PA legislature’s stance on the conflict in the Middle East and massacres happening in Gaza, advocate for the needs of American Muslims residing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and lobby in support of bills that address criminal justice, hate crimes, voting rights, and immigrants’ rights that are on the agenda of the State Legislature.
The high point of this day of legislative advocacy will be a press conference and rally on the steps of the Lower Level, East Wing Rotunda from 12:30pm to 1:00pm, with speakers from the community and state legislature.

The goals of Muslim Capitol Day are:
- To raise the awareness of elected officials about Islamophobia stemming from one-sided statements as a massacre in Gaza continues.
- To encourage and increase the participation of American Muslims in the democratic political process.
- To work together with other groups and communities in building of a more equitable society, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, or racial background.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
