(DETROIT, MI, 12/5/2023) – The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) today welcomed the arraignment of a Detroit man who reportedly threatened to kill Arabs in a voicemail left for his Clinton Township-based attorney.
The man was arraigned on Monday in the 41B District Court in Macomb County on one charge of false report or threat of terrorism. Police said that the man was charged as a habitual fourth offender and that the offense is “potentially punishable by incarceration up to life or any term of years.” He reportedly left a voicemail on his former attorney’s machine expressing his anger at him for not representing him and threatening to kill Arabs.

“We welcome the charges and arraignment of the suspect and thank law enforcement for acting before any alleged threats became actions,” said CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid. “With the disturbing rise in anti-Arab and anti-Muslim violence and bigotry in the past two months, every threat must be taken seriously and investigated.
