The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today said the Biden administration’s decision to bomb Yemen without congressional approval instead of ending the Gaza genocide that is fueling conflict in the region “unnecessarily, illegally and dangerously” risks a regional war and endangers more innocent lives.
In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“We fail to understand why President Biden would rather risk a regional war by bombing Yemen instead of simply stopping the Gaza genocide that is fueling conflict across the world.
“More killing is not the solution to this crisis. Ending Netanyahu’s genocidal war on the people of Gaza and securing a just, lasting peace by ending the occupation is the solution.
“This president is unnecessarily, illegally and dangerously risking the loss of more innocent lives – including the lives of Americans – for the sake of the genocidal Israeli government, all without approval from Congress.”
Awad also urged community members to join the March on Washington for Gaza on January 13. The location for the protest has been updated to Freedom Plaza (1455 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, D.C.
The American Muslim Task Force for Palestine today announced the first group of speakers who plan to deliver remarks at the Jan. 13 march.
Speakers include Dr. Cornel West, Jill Stein, Ms. Ilyasah Shabbazz (daughter of Malcolm X), Imam Omar Suleiman, Dr. Osama Aburishaid, Nihad Awad, Colorado state Rep. Iman Jodeh, Code Pink Director Medea Benjamin, and others.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
