The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today said the newly-revealed video of an Israeli soldier allegedly tearing up a Quran in a destroyed Gaza mosque “shows the true face of the genocide against the Palestinian people.”
That video, recorded and posted online by Israeli invading forces themselves, shows a soldier tearing apart a Quran, Islam’s revealed text, and throwing it to the floor of a destroyed mosque.
“The footage of Israeli occupation forces openly desecrating the Quran in a destroyed mosque shows the true face of the genocide against the Palestinian people,” said CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell. “It is clear from the ongoing Israeli destruction of Palestinian religious, cultural, political, medical, and academic institutions that the ultimate goal of Netanyahu’s government is the erasure of as many Palestinians from Gaza as possible and the permanent subjugation of any who survive.”
Yesterday, CAIR condemned the far-right Israeli government’s murder of 36 members of a single Palestinian family in Gaza as they gathered to break their Ramadan fast.
On Friday, CAIR called on the Biden administration to take responsibility for its role in the ongoing surge in Islamophobia and to match its rhetoric on the International Day to Combat Islamophobia with concrete action by ending the biggest driver of Islamophobia: the genocidal war in Gaza.
