CAIR-DFW Welcomes Sentence in Hate Crime Shooting at Muslim-Owned Business

The Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-DFW) today welcomed the sentencing of the perpetrator of a hate-motivated shooting at a Muslim-owned business in 2015 that left one dead and 4 injured. 

Anthony Paz Torres, 39, was sentenced yesterday after pleading guilty in September to 5 federal hate crime counts for the 2015 mass shooting at Omar’s Wheels and Tires in Dallas. Torres shot and killed one man and left four others injured.

In a statement, CAIR-DFW Executive Director Mustafaa Carroll said:

“We welcome the sentencing of this individual who, motivated by hatred and bigotry, took an innocent life and, had he been ‘successful,’ would have taken more. We pray that God grants the victims’ families solace and strength.”

He noted that CAIR-DFW welcomed a guilty plea in the case last year.
