Civil rights and advocacy group condemns other war crimes and abuses across Palestine
(WASHINGTON, DC – 5/21/2024) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the latest Israeli war crimes and abuses targeting Palestinian civilians, including the killing of school children in an attack on the Jenin refugee camp.
- In the West Bank, Israeli forces killed Palestinian students, a teacher and a doctor, and wounded others, including a journalist, during an assault on Jenin.
- Medical workers told the BBC that Palestinian detainees from Gaza are routinely kept shackled to hospital beds, blindfolded, sometimes naked, and forced to wear diapers. One Israeli military hospital reportedly carried out procedures without painkillers.
- Israeli soldiers and police are reportedly tipping off far-right activists and illegal Israeli settlers that attack Gaza aid trucks, allowing then to block and vandalize the humanitarian convoys.
- Video obtained by Al Jazeera shows Israeli soldiers removing corpses from a morgue at Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital in November. more than 100 bodies were reportedly loaded onto a truck and taken to Israel. [NOTE: A Washington Post report, titled “Mapping the damage to Gaza’s hospitals: Battered, abandoned and raided,” showed that of 36 hospitals in Gaza, only four have not been damaged, raided by Israeli forces, or gone out of service.]
In a statement, CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper said:
“As the Biden administration continues to fund and deny Israel’s ongoing genocide, ethnic cleansing and forced starvation, the far-right Israeli government is escalating its war crimes and human rights abuses against Palestinian civilians in not only Gaza but also the West Bank. Our nation’s complicity in these crimes and abuses must stop.”
Yesterday, CAIR condemned an Israeli airstrike in Gaza that killed 27 people, mostly women and children.
Also yesterday, CAIR called on the Biden administration to respect and not interfere with the “clear and credible” arrest warrant applications that the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor is seeking against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Gallant.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
