The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the Biden administration to take action after the Israeli government approved the largest seizure of land in the occupied West Bank in over three decades.
The Israeli group Peace Now said today that Israeli authorities recently approved the appropriation of 12.7 square kilometers (nearly 5 square miles) of land in the Jordan Valley. The group’s data indicate it was the largest single appropriation approved since the 1993 Oslo accords.
In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“We are at a loss for words to describe the depravity unfolding every day before our eyes. Because of the Biden administration’s unconditional military and political support to Israel, the Israeli government is violating every law under the sun. They are committing genocide, starving innocent civilians, and engaging in ethnic cleansing and land theft. The Biden administration’s policies are endangering world peace, human rights, and American national interests and security.
“What choices do the Palestinian people have to preserve their lives, prosperity and country? Which court can they go to? It’s time for the Biden administration to change its policies and demand an end to the Israeli government’s genocide and land theft.”
He also condemned the killing of 12 Palestinians including nine members of a family, in a designated “safe zone” after they followed Israel’s evacuation orders to leave eastern Khan Younis.
