CAIR Welcomes Alaska Law Making Vandalism of Houses of Worship a Felony

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a new Alaska law making vandalism of houses of worship a felony.

Vandalism of houses of worship and other religious sites is now a felony, under a bill that was signed into law on Tuesday by Gov. Mike Dunleavy.

“We welcome this important legislation protecting communities of faith from bigoted attacks,” said CAIR Government Affairs Director Robert McCaw. “We urge state lawmakers nationwide to adopt similar measures.”

He urged houses of worship to utilize CAIR’s Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety guide, which contains security advice applicable to institutions of all faiths.
