CAIR-LA Condemns WME Employee’s Violent Messages, Calls on Agency to Take Corrective Action

The Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) today condemned the problematic, violent message allegedly sent by a William Morris Endeavor (WME) employee in a pro-Israel WhatsApp group chat. CAIR-LA calls on WME to publicly condemn the statement and take corrective action against the employee.

WME Agent Apologizes to Co-workers for “Kill Them All” Text Message

In response to President Biden’s statement addressing the death of Israeli captives, WME talent agent Brandt Joel allegedly sent a message stating “Screw the left kill all” in a group chat containing several other WME employees.

Joel has reportedly made several other problematic comments in the group chat, including allegedly calling on WME to fire clients who speak out against Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

In a statement, CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush said:

“In an industry that strives for diversity and inclusion, statements calling for violence and killing against any group of people are inexcusable. WME’s silence about this incident is a clear example of the hypocrisy deeply embedded in Hollywood when it comes to Palestine.

“Countless individuals have faced punishment for speaking in support of Palestinian human rights and against the genocide in Gaza, and yet vocal support for Israel’s violence is largely normalized. It is unacceptable for WME to remain neutral in the face of hate, and we call on them to publicly address and condemn the statements made by this employee and immediately take corrective action.”
