CAIR Welcomes Guilty Pleas for Anti-Hispanic Hate Crimes in South Carolina

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed guilty pleas by two South Carolina men for hate crimes targeting Hispanic victims.

Charles Antonio Clippard and Michael Joseph Knox pleaded guilty to targeting people they believed to be Mexican or Hispanic in public places and then robbing them at gunpoint.

“We welcome the guilty pleas in this case and urge all Americans, whatever their background, to stand together against the rising bigotry that often results in acts of violence,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.

Hooper said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
