The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today joined over 30 Maryland mosques and Muslim community organizations that are part of the Islamic Maryland Action Network (IMAN Network) in welcoming news that the investigation against Dr. Zoobia Chaudhry, a respected Johns Hopkins physician and longtime community member, has been officially closed.
The investigation followed a series of baseless attacks by anti-Palestinian groups and individuals against Dr. Chaudhry for condemning the genocide in Gaza and her vocal advocacy for Palestinian human rights.
In July, CAIR joined IMAN Network in launching an action alert that led to thousands of letters sent to Hopkins administrators in support of Dr. Chaudhry.

“CAIR commends the just conclusion of this investigation and affirms Dr. Chaudhry’s steadfast commitment to her community, her patients, and the under-represented populations she serves,” said CAIR’s Maryland Director and IMAN Network Co-founder Zainab Chaudry. “Dr. Chaudhry has spent her career providing exceptional medical care and tirelessly supporting the rights and well-being of diverse communities, especially those facing discrimination and marginalization. As a strong advocate for human rights for all, Dr. Chaudhry upheld the principles of justice and equality in both her professional and personal life, inspiring countless individuals to do the same.”
“This investigation represents the broader challenges and smear attacks faced by individuals who stand in solidarity with marginalized communities, especially amidst the rise of Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian hate,” said IMAN Co-founder and CAIR Maryland Advisory Board Member Dr. Samya Mohammad. “We look forward to working together with people of all backgrounds to denounce all forms of bigotry and to protect the right to advocate for justice without fear of retaliation or targeting.”
“We urge allies, elected officials, and members of the community to join the call to stand against Islamophobia, discrimination, and anti-Palestinian hate in all its forms,” said IMAN Co-founder and Justice For All DC Director Hena Zuberi. “We continue to stand in solidarity with Dr. Chaudhry and reaffirm our commitment to protecting the civil rights of American Muslims, Palestinian advocates, and anyone who may face harassment or discrimination due to their beliefs or advocacy.”
The Islamic Maryland Action Network (IMAN) is a statewide crisis response working group that represents over 350,000 Muslims in the state. Members include over two dozen mosques and Muslim organizations.
