The Michigan chapter of Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI), a local chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today joined community leaders in condemning the display of Nazi flags in Howell and Fowlerville Saturday night.
Those flags were reportedly waved outside of an American Legion Post that was hosting a performance of “The Diary of Anne Frank.” Masked also reportedly shouted antisemitic and racist slurs.
“We condemn this display of neo-Nazi hate and join all those speaking out against the rising bigotry and societal division we are witnessing nationwide,” said CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid. “All such attempts to promote racism, antisemitism or any other form of bigotry must be repudiated by local, state and national religious and political leaders.”
He noted that CAIR has repeatedly condemned neo-Nazi activity nationwide.
Walid said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
