CAIR event stressed Muslim community’s growing political power, advocacy for Gaza, decisive role in 2024 election
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today announced that more than 1,500 people attended its sold-out 30th anniversary gala in Washington, D.C. on Friday, Nov. 22.
That event welcomed community members, students, elected officials, dignitaries, and supporters, marking a significant milestone in the fight for civil rights and social justice.
The CAIR gala is the largest political meeting of American Muslims in Washington, D.C. It highlighted the American Muslim community’s political power and impact on the 2024 election.
CAIR’s gala featured addresses by Reps. Jamaal Bowman and Ilhan Omar, Dr. Altaf Husain, lifetime achievement award winner Dr. Sh. Haifaa Younis, trailblazer award winner Dr. Melina Abdullah, a representative of the South African Embassy, and CAIR National Board Chair Dr. Manal Fakhoury, among others.
Washington, D.C., based CAIR honored dozens of elected officials, journalists, students and health professionals who demonstrated courage in solidarity with the Palestinian people and protested American officials’ complicity in the genocide. The event was officiated by activist and community leader Linda Sarsour.

In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:

The record number of attendees at this event is a sign that the American Muslim community is engaged and dedicated to the fight for civil rights and justice both here and overseas.”
