Community Advisory: CAIR Launches ‘Hostile Campuses’ Webpage Highlighting Campuses Known for Targeting Anti-Genocide Voices

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today announced the launch of a dedicated webpage, titled “Hostile Campuses,” as part of its “Unhostile Campus Campaign” aimed at fostering a campus environment in which Palestinian, Muslim, Arab, Jewish, and other students, faculty, and staff opposing the genocide in Gaza enjoy free speech and academic freedom and are not subjected to state force or university discipline due to their viewpoints.

The new CAIR “Hostile Campuses” webpage serves as a comprehensive resource for students, parents, educators, and community members who are invested in promoting supportive learning environments. It features CAIR’s list of institutions designated as institutions of particular concern due to reported incidents, policies, and discriminatory practices targeting Palestinian, Muslim, Arab, Jewish, and other individuals opposing occupation, apartheid, and genocide.

The universities and colleges identified as institutions of particular concern by CAIR include:

CAIR strongly encourages prospective students and their families to take meaningful and informed actions when considering universities.

• First, dive deep into researching the policies and campus climate of your potential choices to gauge their commitment to inclusivity.
• Next, reach out to current Muslim students and activists to hear their experiences and insights, as their perspectives can be invaluable.
• If you are already a student, take a proactive stance by joining initiatives that advocate for greater equity and inclusion on campus.
• Lastly, if you encounter any form of discrimination or harassment, it is crucial to report it promptly to CAIR, ensuring that these issues are addressed and that a supportive community is cultivated for everyone. 

Students, staff, and faculty who wish for their university or college campus to be considered as a potential “institution of particular concern” should complete the ‘Report a Hostile Campus’ form.

The organization adds a disclaimer that the form is intended solely to inform CAIR’s ‘UnHostile Campus Campaign.’ Students, faculty, and affiliates seeking CAIR’s legal and advocacy services should continue to contact their local office or chapter, or in the event that there is no local chapter, file a formal report with CAIR’s National Civil Rights Department.
