CAIR Calls on Feds to Consider Hate Crime Charges for Xenophobic, Anti-Asian Assault in Missouri

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on federal law enforcement authorities to consider hate crime charges for a Missouri man who allegedly attacked a shopper because he believed that person was of foreign origin. The suspect also reportedly made anti-Asian statements.

A Creve Coeur, Missouri, man allegedly went on a rant targeting foreigners and the Chinese, saying: “I’m tired of foreigners, man. Walking all over the place, making our money cost so much more than it should. F—— people trampling over us. I’m next f—— going to China to take them down because they were part of the COVID vaccine, virus.”

The alleged victim tried to get away, but reportedly stumbled and fell to the floor, and the suspect then allegedly struck him repeatedly in the face and upper body. The suspect was charged with fourth-degree assault motivated by discrimination

“We condemn this allegedly xenophobic and anti-Asian attack and urge federal law enforcement authorities to consider bringing hate crime charges to send a strong message that such alleged bias-motivated violence will not be tolerated in our society,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.

He noted that yesterday, CAIR condemned a march by the white supremacist group Patriot Front in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday.

Last year, CAIR condemned a reported neo-Nazi demonstration in Missouri.

Hooper CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
