CAIR Concludes Successful DMV Campus Tour, Strengthening Student Engagement and Advocacy

The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today marked the successful conclusion of its weeks-long DMV Campus Tour, which featured visits, trainings, and dialogue with college students at some one dozen university campuses across the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) to engage in meaningful discussions on civil rights, advocacy, and community empowerment.

During the stops, CAIR met with student leaders, Muslim Student Associations (MSAs), and allied student organizations to foster dialogue on issues impacting Muslim students and the broader community. The tour provided an opportunity for students to learn about their rights, share their experiences, and connect with CAIR’s resources for legal and advocacy support.

“Students across our country should know that CAIR is deeply committed to protecting their rights and being a resource and advocate for them in their educational journey,” said CAIR’s National Executive Director Nihad Awad. “Our young leaders are playing an active role in shaping the future they want to see both on and off campus, and our organization is dedicated to supporting and guiding their journey.”

“We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and engagement CAIR witnessed throughout this tour,” said CAIR Maryland’s Outreach Coordinator, Kimberly Syuardi. “Students across the DMV showed up and embodied a strong commitment to advocating for their rights and fostering inclusive campus communities. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with student leaders to ensure their voices are heard and their rights are protected.”

During the tour, CAIR facilitated Know Your Rights workshops, policy discussions, and networking opportunities, equipping students with the tools needed to advocate effectively for themselves and their communities. The initiative also strengthened CAIR’s partnerships with campus organizations, reaffirming its commitment to supporting Muslim students.

Last evening marked the final stop on the tour at George Mason University.  CAIR encourages students to stay engaged by joining its upcoming initiatives, including internships, advocacy campaigns, and future campus programming.

CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
