CAIR Congratulates New Muslim Delegate Sworn In Today to Md. General Assembly

The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) congratulates State Delegate Sean Stinnett, who was sworn into office today. He was nominated last month to fill the vacant 41st District seat in the Maryland General Assembly.

As a longtime public servant, advocate, and a dedicated member of Baltimore’s Muslim community, Stinnett has demonstrated a strong commitment to equity, justice, and civic engagement. His leadership in Baltimore, particularly in fostering stronger ties between government and historically marginalized communities, has made a lasting impact.

In a statement to CAIR, Delegate Stinnett said:

“I can say I never gave up on the opportunity to serve my District as an elected official. I’m very excited and ready to get started. I had gone up against a great pool of candidates; however, I believe what took me over for consideration was my years of dedicated and consistent service to the communities of the 41st. Representing such a diverse District, I’m eager to bring the same energy I’ve had throughout the years where I have learned and worked with everyone. I truly believe this is the time we can grow and move forward as one. I’m ready!”

“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Delegate Stinnett, and look forward to working with him in his new role,” said CAIR’s Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry. “His appointment is a testament to the growing civic engagement of Maryland’s Muslim community and the vital contributions we continue to make in public service. ”

Stinnett, who now sits on the House Judiciary Committee, joins two other American Muslim Delegates in the General Assembly. He is employed in the Maryland Department of General Services. Prior to that, he served in the Baltimore Mayor’s Office as Deputy Director of Small, Minority & Women-Owned Businesses and Director of Baltimore Main Streets.

The civil rights group remains committed to celebrating the Muslim community’s voices in all levels of government and advocating for justice, inclusivity, and the protection of civil rights for all Marylanders.

CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
