CAIR Welcomes Dismissal of 2 Delaware Firefighters Charged with Hate Crime

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the dismissal of two Delaware firefighters charged with a hate crime for allegedly chasing another employee with a noose.

Two men who worked with the Millville Volunteer Fire Company were fired and charged with a hate crime after allegedly chasing another employee with a rope made into a noose. One of the employees also reportedly called the victim racial slurs. One of the suspects was also suspended from his position as a volunteer firefighter in Maryland.

“We welcome the hate crime charges brought against the suspects for their alleged racist harassment of a colleague,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “No one should be subject to racially-motivated bias at their workplace, and no one who would do such a thing should be entrusted with saving lives.”

Washington, D.C., based CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
