CAIR Urges Congress to Censure Rep. Randy Fine for Racist Attack on Palestinians

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on Congress to censure Florida Congressman Randy Fine after he made yet another racist attack on Palestinians, saying they have “mental defects.”

When a Florida journalist asked him about his recent call to use nuclear weapons to destroy Gaza, Fine reportedly said:

“It shows the sophistication of the Muslim-terror media that they are able to convince people like you to interpret (it that way). … Now I recognize that half of people in Gaza are married to their cousins, so you’re going to find a lot of people with mental defects. But you’ve got to have a mental defect to interpret the comment that way.”

SEE: Does Randy Fine support nuking Gaza? We asked him.

In a statement, CAIR said:

“With yet another racist attack on Palestinians and their culture, Representative Fine again shows that he is unfit to serve the people of Florida in Congress. We call on the House of Representatives to censure Fine for his repeated displays of anti-Palestinian and anti-Muslim bigotry.”

Last month, CAIR condemned Fine’s statement calling for the nuclear annihilation of Gaza and urged both Republican and Democratic leaders to take immediate action to publicly denounce his genocidal rhetoric and remove him from all congressional committees and caucuses.

Also last month, CAIR sent a letter to every member of the U.S. House of Representatives and more than 1,600 congressional staffers, urging them to condemn Rep. Fine’s dangerously anti-Muslim, anti-American, and anti-Palestinian rhetoric.

That letter documented ten examples of Fine promoting hatred, threatening elected officials, mocking the deaths of children, and advocating collective punishment.

Fine’s broader record includes:

  • Saying “Gaza must be destroyed.”
  • Calling a fellow member of Congress a “Muslim terrorist.”
  • Telling Palestinians to “eat rockets” and posting hashtags like #BombsAway and #StarveAway.
  • Mocking a dead Palestinian child with “Quite well, actually! Thanks for the pic!”
  • Telling a Muslim constituent to “go blow yourself up.”
  • Referring to a Palestinian keffiyeh as a “terrorist rag” during a public hearing.
  • Threatening to weaponize anti-protest and anti-boycott laws to silence dissent.

CAIR will continue working with allied organizations, civil rights leaders, and elected officials to hold Rep. Fine accountable and ensure that no member of Congress is allowed to promote violence without facing consequences.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
