CAIR-Oklahoma: Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond calls for expulsion of all Afghan refugees – Oklahoman

Veronica Laizure-Henry, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Oklahoma, said Drummond is using Afghan neighbors as pawns in his political campaign for governor.

“It is unfair to generalize our Afghan neighbors — who risked unimaginable horrors in service of the U.S.’s goals in their home country, and who went through incredible trials to be here as our neighbors — by the actions of a few,” she said. “Here in Oklahoma, we are deeply and intimately familiar with the dangers of domestic terrorism; yet we do not rush to assume that everyone who looks like Timothy McVeigh shares his ideology and willingness to carry out violence.”

Nihad Awad, executive director for the Council on American–Islamic Relations, said the revamped policy remains overly broad, politically motivated, and unnecessary.

“The fact that this iteration is more careful than the previous one doesn’t make it just, doesn’t make it right, and doesn’t make it OK,” Awad said. “It targets, unjustly, an entire population based on their ethnicities and backgrounds.”
