CAIR: Cruz Criticizes Hochul for Wearing Head Scarf at Slain Officer’s Funeral – New York Times

In a statement on Saturday, the Council on American-Islamic Relations called on the senator to apologize to Ms. Hochul and to Detective Islam’s family, describing his posts as “despicable and disrespectful.”

The group also noted that Senator Cruz had been photographed wearing a skullcap at a campaign event with Jewish community leaders, which the group said “makes his attack on Governor Hochul for similarly respecting a Muslim space all the more hateful and hypocritical.”

CAIR: New York governor hits back at Ted Cruz after trolling her for wearing headscarf at NYPD officer’s funeral – The Independent

The Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned Cruz’s “despicable” remarks, and called on him to apologize.

“If Ted Cruz has any remaining sense of human decency, he will apologize to both the family of slain New York City Police Department Officer Didarul Islam and Governor Kathy Hochul for his despicable and disrespectful conduct,” the statement said.

Ibrahim Hooper, the national communications director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said they “condemn this vile act of neo-Nazi hate targeting a center dedicated to the preservation of Jewish history. Such cowardly acts have no place in our society and serve as a reminder of the ongoing threat posed by growing bigotry nationwide.”
