CAIR-NJ to Join Press Conference, Rally in Trenton Calling for End to New Jersey’s $30 Million Investment in Israel Bonds

On Thursday, September 25, at 12 p.m. ET, the New Jersey chapter of the Council on Islamic-Relations will join allied organizations at a press conference and rally outside the New Jersey Division of Investment to demand that the state government divest from $30 million in Israel Bonds purchased with state workers’ pensions and general funds due to the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza.

WHERE: 50 W. State Street, Trenton, NJ 08608
WHEN: Thursday, Sept. 25, 12 p.m. ET
CONTACT: CAIR-NJ Communications Manager Aya Elamroussi, 551-208-5482, aelamroussi@cair.com

Speakers at the event will represent organizations that have signed onto the campaign and will call on state leaders to immediately divest from Israel Bonds.

BACKGROUNDER:

Despite repeated requests, New Jersey’s Chief Investment Officer Shoaib Khan and members of the State Investment Council have failed to respond to calls for a meeting about divestment from Israel Bonds.

The press conference comes at a time when the United Nations has determined that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. By continuing to invest millions of taxpayer and pension dollars into Israel Bonds, the state of New Jersey is complicit in funding genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people.

Break the Bonds NJ is a grassroots campaign working to end New Jersey’s investment in Israel Bonds and to ensure taxpayer and pension funds are used for justice, not oppression.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
