Interfaith Leaders to Hold Press Conference Condemning Governor Abbott’s Unlawful and Defamatory Attack on CAIR-Texas

The Dallas/FT. Worth office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-TX, DFW), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, and the Muslim Legal Fund of America (MLFA) today announced that local American Muslim, Christian, Jewish and Palestinian leaders plan to hold a joint press conference on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025 to stand in solidarity and condemn Texas Governor Abbott’s unlawful and defamatory attack on CAIR-Texas.

Planned participants include Muslim American Society (MAS-Dallas), Islamic Circle of North America’s Council for Social Justice (ICNA CSJ), North Texas Islamic Council (NTIC), Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), and  North Texas religious leaders in the Muslim, Jewish, and Christian communities

In a statement, organizers said:

“Greg Abbott is attempting to punish the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization simply because he disagrees with its support for free speech and Palestinian human rights, and because he has been defeated in court three different times by the organization. Governor Abbott’s attack on free speech and due process is completely contrary to the United States Constitution and must not stand.”

🗓️ Date:            Tuesday, November 25, 2025

⏰ Time:           11:00am

At this gathering, faith leaders will call for:

  • Interfaith solidarity rooted in compassion, justice, and freedom of expression for all.
  • All Americans to demand the Governor to honor the Constitution and the laws of the land.
  • Abbott to retract his proclamation, which is nothing more than an attempt to demonize law-abiding citizens and organizations for doing nothing more than advocating for civil liberties and justice for all.

At this critical moment, your faith leadership is urgently needed to uplift the moral voice of our communities, amplify our call for freedom, justice, and equality for all.

In a statement, CAIR-TX, DFW Executive Director Mustafaa Carroll said:

“We will not be deterred nor distracted despite Governor Greg Abbott’s unjustified and unlawful proclamation against CAIR.  We will continue to advocate for and defend the civil rights of Muslims in Texas.”

Last month, CAIR released its 2025 Civil Rights Report “Unconstitutional Crackdowns,” which reveals that Islamophobia continues to be at an all-time high across the country. CAIR said viewpoint discrimination against those speaking out against genocide and apartheid was a key factor in many cases.

The mission of CAIR-Texas is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims
