The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the firing of a Cinnabon worker who reportedly went on a racist anti-Muslim rant targeting a Somali-American couple.
That worker was fired from a Cinnabon bakery in Wisconsin after video showed her harassing a Somali couple with racist comments, including saying the n-word, admitting to being racist and making derogatory comments about the woman’s Islamic head scarf, or hijab.
In a statement, CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:
“We welcome Cinnabon’s decision to hold this employee accountable for her vile and racist rant against Black Muslim customers. The fact that this employee felt comfortable calling a Black couple the n-word on camera is a sign of how acceptable anti-Black and anti-Somali racism has become. Our political leaders, including President Trump, must stop fomenting hatred against Americans of Somali descent.”
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
