CAIR Condemns Deadly Attack on Shia Mosque in Pakistan

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned a suicide bombing at a Shia mosque in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad.

An attacker opened fire at the gates of a Shia mosque in Islamabad on Friday before setting off a suicide bomb and killing at least 31 people, in the deadliest attack of its kind in Pakistan’s capital in over a decade.

In a statement, CAIR said:

“We strongly condemn this heinous attack on the Shia community in Pakistan and stand in solidarity with everyone impacted by such acts of hate. Bombing a house of worship is a despicable act. This type of violence happens far too often and must stop.”
