The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil right and advocacy organization, today welcomed the resignation of a Wyandotte School Board Trustee for making an Islamophobic post suggesting that dogs are better than Muslims.
Cindy Kinney, who served on the Wyandotte School Board for 12 years, resigned yesterday after complaints were made about a social media post that she connected to a dog and a Muslim man with the writing “dogs or Muslims you can only pick one.”

An emergency school board meeting was held yesterday after growing public complaints in which Kinney submitted a letter of resignation to the board though she did not attend the meeting in person.

“We welcome the resignation of Cindy Kinney from the Wyandotte School Board and applaud the school board for holding an emergency meeting regarding the seriousness of this offense,” said CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid. “We encourage the Wyandotte School Board to institute more sensitivity trainings on Islam and Muslims for its board members, staffers and teachers.”
Walid also noted that this situation comes at backdrop of a similar bigoted trope pushed by Rep. Randy Fine (R-FL) who recently doubled down on making a similar comparison of Muslims with dogs.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
