CAIR-LA: Pastor’s anti-Muslim posts lead to chaplain exit, award reversal – Los Angeles Times

Amr Shabaik, the legal director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ local chapter told TimesOC that anti-Muslim sentiments “especially concerning” when coming from chaplains affiliated with law enforcement agencies.

“Chaplains working alongside public officers should provide spiritual support and guidance rooted in dignity and respect for all people, regardless of faith background,” Shabaik said. “When hate in such a public manner is allowed to go unchecked, it erodes public trust and puts the safety and well-being of all our communities at risk.”

The Arizona chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations welcomed law enforcement’s swift arrest in the case.

“This disturbing incident occurred in a broader climate in which Muslim communities across the country are increasingly concerned about safety and rising bigotry,” Executive Director Azza Abuseif said in a statement. “We call on public officials and community leaders to clearly and consistently condemn anti-Muslim hate and to stand in solidarity with communities targeted because of their faith.”
