CAIR ACTION ALERT: Urge House Leadership to Bring War Powers Resolution to Vote as War with Iran Intensifies

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today is calling on American Muslims, allies, and people of conscience nationwide to call on House Democratic leadership and bring a War Powers Resolution to the House floor for a vote without dely.

“There is no justification for silence while the United States moves closer to another endless war,” said CAIR Government Affairs Director, Robert S. McCaw. “Delaying a vote does not reflect caution, it risks sidelining Congress’s constitutional responsibility at a critical moment. House leadership should act now to bring a War Powers Resolution to the floor, ensure transparency, and allow every Member of Congress to go on record. The American people deserve clarity, accountability, and decisive leadership before this situation escalates further.”

Earlier in March the bipartisan War Powers Resolution led by Representatives Thomas Massie and Ro Khanna, narrowly failed to pass the House.

Since then the political landscape has changed. According to a recent study done by the Pew Research Center “About six-in-ten Americans (61%) disapprove of Trump’s handling of the conflict, while 37% approve.” There are credible reports that Democrats who initially voted against the resolution would vote for it now, and there are at least two Republicans (Rep. Massie and Rep. Mace) likely to support it as well. If members are forced again to share their stance on this unpopular war, there is a real chance to pass the resolution.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.

SAMPLE MESSAGE

I am writing to urgently call on you to bring a War Powers Resolution to the House floor for an immediate vote. The United States is dangerously close to another unauthorized war with Iran, and Congress must act now.

According to the Pew Research Center, 61% of Americans disapprove of the administration’s handling of this conflict. At the same time, there are credible reports that Members who previously opposed the bipartisan resolution led by Thomas Massie and Ro Khanna are now reconsidering, with growing bipartisan support to pass it.

Delaying this vote risks further escalation, including reports that Donald Trump may deploy about 10,000 U.S. ground troops drawing American service members into a prolonged and costly conflict. Even if the resolution does not pass, forcing a vote ensures accountability and transparency at a critical moment.

Congress has a constitutional duty to act now not after escalation has already occurred. I urge you to bring the War Powers Resolution to the floor immediately and ensure every Member of Congress goes on record.
