CAIR Welcomes Congressional Call for U.S. to Acknowledge and Address Israel’s Nuclear Weapons Arsenal

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a congressional effort urging President Trump to publicly acknowledge and address Israel’s undeclared nuclear weapons program.

In a letter, 30 lawmakers call on the U.S. to acknowledge and address Israel’s undeclared, unmonitored nuclear weapons program, “which it doesn’t acknowledge and was built in secret.”

In a statement, CAIR Government Affairs Director Robert McCaw said:

“Transparency and accountability must be applied consistently in U.S. foreign policy. For decades, there has been a glaring double standard when it comes to discussions of nuclear weapons in the Middle East. If the United States is committed to nuclear nonproliferation and global security, it cannot ignore or obscure the reality of Israel’s nuclear arsenal.

“The congressional call for disclosure is a step toward honesty and fairness in policymaking. The American public deserves to know the full scope of U.S. involvement and positioning on nuclear weapons globally.

“Addressing this issue openly could help restore credibility to U.S. nonproliferation efforts and support broader international initiatives aimed at reducing the threat of nuclear conflict.”
