CAIR Condemns Distribution of White Supremacist Mailers in Tennessee

Muslim civil rights organization urges elected officials to reject and denounce racist, extremist propaganda

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the distribution of white supremacist mailers in Tennessee reportedly linked to a local Republican Party official and called on political leaders of all parties to unequivocally reject racist and extremist ideology.

Those mailers reportedly contained openly white supremacist messaging and prompted condemnation from state political leaders after they were circulated in Maury County, Tennessee.

Tennessee Young Republicans distanced themselves from the materials and announced disciplinary action against the individual allegedly responsible.

In a statement, Washington, D.C., based CAIR said:

“There can be no place in our society for white supremacist propaganda, racist conspiracy theories, or efforts to normalize hatred targeting minority communities. White supremacy has fueled violence against Muslims, Jews, African Americans, immigrants, and many other communities. Political leaders must speak with one voice in rejecting these hateful ideologies and ensuring they never gain legitimacy in our public discourse.”

CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging systemic anti-Black racism, antisemitism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
