The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today said elected officials should take note of a newly-released national poll showing a significant decline in public support for the Israeli government, particularly among voters and Democratic voters.
According to a new AP-NORC poll, a growing share of Americans believe the United States is too supportive of Israel, while support for Palestinian rights has significantly increased. The survey found that roughly half of Democrats now say the United States is too supportive of Israel, a marked increase from 2024, and that more than six in ten Democrats believe the United States is not supportive enough of Palestinians.
In a statement, CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:
“As this new AP-NORC poll shows, the American people are increasingly rejecting unconditional support for the Israeli government in the wake of the genocide it has perpetrated in Gaza with our taxpayer dollars. Lawmakers have a moral obligation to listen to their constituents and uphold federal laws that clearly prohibit giving money and weapons to foreign human rights violators.
“Despite widespread attempts to silence free speech about Palestine, public opinion in America is still moving toward recognition of Palestinian humanity and the need to stop enabling the Israeli government’s policies of genocide and apartheid. Members of Congress should stop ignoring the voices of the people they represent.”
He noted that earlier this year, CAIR called on the GOP to listen to its own voters as new polls show that support for the genocidal Israeli government plummeting among young Republicans.
Yesterday, CAIR called on voters to contact their members of Congress and the State Department to demand the immediate release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a Gaza doctor and hospital director kidnapped by Israel and then held without charge or trial since December 2024.
