CAIR Calls on Trump to Reject Netanyahu’s New Demands for U.S. Attack on Iran, Urges Congress to Pass War Powers Resolution

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the Trump administration to reject Israeli Prime Minister and wanted war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu’s latest attempt to pressure President Trump to attack Iran and reignite a regional war.

CAIR also called on Congress to pass the Iran War Powers Resolution before Netanyahu succeeds in once again sparking a regional war.

In a statement, CAIR Deputy Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:

“Not again. President Trump must reject Benjamin Netanyahu’s latest attempt to pressure our nation into launching more illegal, disastrous attacks on Iran.

“Over the past year, this illegal war of choice waged for Israel’s benefit has resulted in nothing other than the slaughter of thousands of Iranians and other civilians across the region, the deaths of over 20 American soldiers, and an economic crisis that threatens our nation and the world.

“Congress must pass the Iran War Powers Resolution before Netanyahu and warmongers within the Trump administration convince the President to fully restart an illegal, unnecessary and deadly war with Iran.”

Axios reports that Netanyahu has repeatedly raised the idea of the U.S. and Israel renewing attacks on Iran before the upcoming Israeli and U.S. elections, which would likely lead to the delay of Israeli elections that could end Netanyahu’s tenure.

Axios quoted an unnamed U.S. official who said that Netanyahu appears to want the United States to strike Iran again, but President Trump has not committed to doing so as of yet.

Netanyahu’s call with Trump about the possible attack took place before the president said he would not strike Iran ahead of the midterms.

CAIR previously called on the Senate to support the Iran War Powers Act after President Trump threatened to prolong and escalate the illegal war with Iran by bombing civilian infrastructure.
