The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the Trump administration and Congress to condemn the overnight Israeli terror bombing of the new Gaza humanitarian aid flotilla carrying U.S. citizens and to demand its safe passage to bring supplies to the forcibly-starved people of Gaza.
Americans from New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Oregon, Washington state, Arizona, and California are reportedly on board the flotilla ships.
The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) accused Israel of the attack that included explosions and unidentified objects being dropped as well as drones overhead and communications jamming. Italy’s defense minister ordered an Italian Navy frigate to head toward the 52 GSF boats off the coast of Crete to assist Italian citizens on board. The UN has called for an independent probe into the attacks.
ACTION ALERT: Tell Congress to Condemn Israeli Bombing of Gaza Aid Flotilla Carrying U.S. Citizens, Demand Safe Passage
“The Israeli government keeps attacking American citizens because the American government refuses to stand up for its own citizens. The Trump administration and every member of Congress must condemn the Israeli occupation’s cowardly overnight terror bombing of the Gaza aid flotilla, which includes American citizens from at least eight different states traveling to deliver baby formula and other aid to starving Palestinians. Israel’s unhinged, threatening rhetoric about the flotilla in recent days was meant to lay the groundwork for exactly this type of violence. If members of Congress stay silent, Israel will see it as a greenlight to escalate its violence.”
Yesterday, CAIR said President Trump’s claim at the United Nations General Assembly that London wants to “go to Sharia law” and a resurgence in other baseless anti-Muslim conspiracy theories are meant to distract from the real threat to western societies: crackdowns on free speech for the benefit of the genocidal Israeli government.
Washington, D.C., based CAIR also commended the government of Spain for approving a full arms embargo on Israel and urged other nations to adopt similar measures.
