CAIR ACTION ALERT: Tell the Senate to Vote YES on Sanders’ Resolutions to Block U.S. Bombs and Guns for Genocide in Gaza

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, is calling on all Americans to immediately contact their U.S. senators and demand they VOTE YES on two urgent resolutions introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders to stop the Trump administration from sending more weapons to the Israeli government.

ACT NOW: Tell the Senate — No More U.S. Weapons for Israel’s Genocide, Apartheid, and Land Theft

Senator Sanders is expected to force the Senate to vote as early as today on two Joint Resolutions of Disapproval (JRDs) that would block offensive arms transfers to Israel amid its campaign of mass civilian killings, man-made famine, and regional destabilization. The Senate is expected to break for its August recess this Friday.

Senator Sanders’ JRDs include:

  • S.J.Res.34 – Blocks the $675.7 million sale of 1,000-pound MK 83 bombs, BLU-110A/B general-purpose bombs, and over 5,000 Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) guidance kits used in airstrikes that have flattened homes, hospitals, and refugee shelters across Gaza.
  • S.J.Res.41 – Blocks the sale of tens of thousands of fully automatic assault rifles to Israeli forces and police under the command of extremist Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who has armed violent settlers carrying out ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Since October, Israel’s U.S.-funded assault on Gaza and the West Bank has killed more than 60,000 Palestinians and injured over 143,000, the vast majority of whom are women, children, and the elderly. Humanitarian infrastructure, schools, and hospitals have been systematically destroyed using the very munitions included in this weapons package.

Just this week, two of Israel’s most prominent human rights organizations, B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights-Israel, declared that Israel’s military campaign in Gaza meets the legal definition of genocide. Their findings echo longstanding warnings by Palestinian and human rights groups like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch (HRW), declaring Israel’s war crimes in Gaza genocide, documenting systematic attacks on civilians, infrastructure, and access to food, water, and medicine.

Over the past two months alone, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been shot by Israeli soldiers while attempting to access food aid. The Israeli government’s replacement of the United Nations distribution system with the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) has turned food lines into modern-day concentration camps and death traps, created with U.S. backing. Children are now dying of starvation, and doctors warn that widespread famine is imminent.

These weapons sales clearly violate the Foreign Assistance Act, the Arms Export Control Act, and Section 620I, which prohibits U.S. aid to any country obstructing humanitarian relief. Despite these legal restrictions, the Trump administration continues to approve these deadly arms transfers without congressional oversight.

Resolutions like these are a top priority in CAIR’s 2025 August Recess Toolkit, which urges Muslim communities and allies to meet with their members of Congress and demand a permanent end to U.S. weapons transfers that enable genocide, apartheid, and illegal occupation.

Contact your senators immediately. Share this alert. Speak out. Meet with Congress during the August Recess.

Congress must choose: weapons for Israel’s genocide or the preservation of life.
