CAIR Action Alert: Urge Congress, State Department to Demand Israel Release Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya After Report of His Critical Condition

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on all Americans who value human rights, justice, and the protection of medical personnel to contact their members of Congress and the State Department to demand the immediate release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a Gaza doctor and hospital director kidnapped by Israel and then held without charge or trial since December 2024.

Dr. Abu Safiya is now reportedly in critical condition and after being transferred to solitary confinement.

When he met with his attorney on July 2, Dr. Abu Safiya reportedly had difficulty breathing and speaking, struggled to sit upright, and was on the verge of losing consciousness.

He reportedly told his attorney: “They brought me here to kill me. I don’t see myself surviving. This is the end.”

“I urge you to publicly demand the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a respected Palestinian physician who was kidnapped by Israeli forces in Gaza and is being held without charge since December 2024. He is now in critical condition following reported torture and abuse in a prison funded by American taxpayer dollars.

“Our nation must publicly call for Dr. Abu Safiya’s immediate release, the provision of urgent medical care, and demand the release of all medical personnel and others held illegally by Israel.

“The reported critical condition of Dr. Abu Safiya underscores the urgent need for immediate intervention. Please speak up before it is too late.”

Last month, CAIR demanded his release after he was moved to solitary confinement.

The civil rights organization has repeatedly called for the immediate release of Dr. Abu Safiya and condemned Israeli torture and abuse of prisoners.
