“It’s made a drastic change in the way we interact with our community,” Martín Quezada, a former Democratic state lawmaker and the attorney for the Council on American-Islamic Relations of Arizona, said during a news conference Friday to promote a May 1 immigrants’ rights rally. “I think it’s (racial profiling) certainly going to start spiking now. But I also think the extremity of everything that’s happened is going to create some unity.”

“Teaching students in the United States to perform the national anthem of a foreign country, particularly one whose government is currently under investigation by the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity, is not only inappropriate, but also traumatic for many students,” Zainab Chaudry, CAIR’s Maryland director, said in a news release.

CAIR-Chicago pushed back against the group’s characterization in its own post. “Reducing an entire people’s heritage to terrorism is not advocacy — it’s dehumanization,” the group said.
“By their logic, should the kippah be cancelled because Israeli soldiers wear it? Of course not. But, that is their argument.”

The Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) condemned what it described as a racially charged attack.
“This disturbing attack against a vulnerable member of our community—a pregnant street vendor simply trying to earn a living—cannot be brushed aside,” said CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush. “We call on the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident as a hate crime.”
